英語圏地域を中心に、文化や民族の摩擦と共存、多文化環境での集団と個人について分野横断的に学習し研究する。日英両言語を駆使しつつ広く国内外で活躍する。

教学理念

国際英語専攻

北アメリカやイギリス諸島、オセアニア地域やカリブ海、南アフリカといった英語圏地域の文化・社会・歴史について学び、研究します。英語圏地域はグローバル化推進の重要な拠点の一つとして機能するなど、政治や経済において重要な役割を果たし、文化は現代の国際社会に大きな影響を及ぼしています。英語圏の動きは世界の動きと密接な関係を持っており、そうした動きを多面的・重層的に学ぶことで、将来、世界市民として活躍する上で不可欠な、広い視野を身につけます。文化の研究は人間洞察を深めます。また学術英語（EAP）科目や英語で提供される専門科目、留学プログラムを通じて、英語の運用能力を高めます。

研究入門 学域独自に選択した文献や書き下ろした資料を基に、学域・専攻における学習や研究活動のために必要不可欠となる、基礎的な知識の習得と、文献探索や読解のための基本的技術の習得、主体的に考えて発信できる力の育成をめざします。学域の学習へといざなう最初の科目として英語および日本語を一部使用するバイリンガル開講で進めます。
Thesis Writing In this course students will learn how to carry out research and write research papers, consistent with the MLA, APA or Chicago guidelines, and with full documentation.
Introduction to the Culture of English-Speaking Regions and Societies This course offers an introduction to the methods, conceptual frameworks, analytical view points and key topics in studies of culture. The students will focus especially on the cultures related to songs and stories from English-speaking regions. The topic will be discussed especially in a social as well as individual context.
Introduction to Multicultural Society of English-Speaking Regions This class aims to understand English-speaking world by focusing on cooperation as well as friction among those with different racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds. Through using both theoretical and practical frameworks, students will comprehend imperialism, globalization, and the transnational flow of people, goods, and information that facilitate diversification of the world.
Cultural History of the English Language English, a “local” language once spoken by one of the Germanic tribes, has transformed into a “global” language used by one-quarter of the world’s population. The aim of this lecture is to explore the origin and development of the English language and to understand the nature of its linguistic and cultural diversity.
英語圏文化探究 I・Ⅱ 英語圏の文化についてより深く理解するため、諸文化から特定の分野を選んで、言語、価値観、伝統などとの関連で、詳しく検討します。
大西洋世界の文化移動と展開 奴隷貿易から現代までの「黒人」の文化を概観します。国や地域に限定せず、アフリカ、ヨーロッパ、アメリカをつなぐ環大西洋世界におけるヒトやモノの移動に注目し、世界各地に離散した彼らの文化的経験を捉え直します。グローバル規模で文化的伝統や抵抗の系譜を検討することで、現代文化の多様性や流動性を理解する視点を養うことがねらいです。
通訳研究 実践的な通訳力を身につける入門授業です。現代社会における通訳者の役割は何か、通訳という職業の種類やいかにプロの技術を身につけるのか、通訳者には何が求められるのかといった概説も含みます。多言語状況にある現代社会には、優れた通訳者が不可欠です。より高度な異言語間コミュニケーションに貢献する通訳技術を学びます。
翻訳研究 実践的な翻訳力を身につける入門授業です。機械翻訳ではできない翻訳や翻訳という職業についての概説も含みます。多言語状況にある現代社会には、優れた翻訳者が不可欠です。より高度な異言語間コミュニケーションに貢献する翻訳技術を学びます。
Introduction to Vernacular Culture In this course students will study everyday culture, which is called “vernacular culture” or “folklore,” of the United States, while comparing it with cultures from Japan and the native cultures of students from abroad. We will talk about the “old stuff” and “living stuff,” including folktales, traditional festivals, urban legends, and even folklore on the Internet.
Popular Culture in English-Speaking Regions This lecture gives students an insight into the popular culture of the English-speaking world. What makes a certain culture “popular” through ages and various places? The world of fantasy literature, for example, has its origins in western countries and has had a wide range of influences on Japanese contemporary culture, such as picture books, novels, films, and digital games.
